Utterly Random


(and totally useless trivia about me)

  • Most people know me only by my first name. They're usually unable to spell and/or pronounce my last name.
  • I was once employed by Universal Studios Orlando as a tour guide.
  • Favorite smells: My daughter's hair/skin. Fresh baked bread. Roasted pork with mustard. Good, strong coffee. Nag Champa incense.
  • Equally logical + creative...equally left + right brain. Doesn't matter HOW many tests I take, results are the same.
  • I was a part-time personal chef for many years. Southwest cuisine was my favorite to prepare.
  • I'm a 3rd generation piano player...but I could never learn to sight-read. Frustrating.
  • J.K. Rowling is my hero. I will never grow tired of the Harry Potter series. They make me instantly happy. And I'm a Gryffindor.
  • "Mimi" was my nickname growing up. My grandfather could never say my name.
  • Fashion design is one of my unrealized dreams. I sewed for decades. Bob Mackie was my favorite designer.
  • From ages 11-15, I showed Palomino Quarter Horses with the New York Palomino Exhibitors Association.
  • Any concerns I have about corn syrup go RIGHT OUT THE WINDOW when you put a jar of Marshmallow Fluff in front of me.
  • I have a fabulous sense of direction when driving...but, put me inside a building and I'm a directional nincompoop.
  • Initiated sister of Alpha chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority.
  • Best moment(s) of my life? Moving to Orlando after college. My dog, Picante (1995-2010). My daughter's birth.
  • Worst moment(s) of my life? First 2 years of college. Miscarriage in '97. Divorce '01. My ex suing for full custody. Twice.
  • A Syracuse University graduate. Home of the Orange. (and the color orange looks horrid on me!)
  • Pet peeves: Air-headed drivers. Indecisiveness. Parents who let their children run amok in restaurants.
  • I can mimic Grover from Sesame Street.
  • I'm a relatively good singer...but never had interest in learning it as an art.
  • Purchasing appliances makes me feel like I'm 20-something again and learning to be a grown-up. (Weird, I know.)
  • I'm the oldest of all my cousins, and I'm the only female cousin on my mother's side of the family.
  • As of the date I wrote this, I've moved 19 times since 1990.
  • Best & hardest job ever: server & expeditor at Pebbles Restaurant, Lake Buena Vista, FL. Employees were, and still are, a family.
  • I love Liam Neeson. Not kidding. I would drop everything (but my daughter) for him. :-)
  • My daughter never fell in love with Sesame Street like I did as a child. That made me sad.
  • I redeemed myself as a parent because she TOTALLY digs Looney Tunes & the original seasons of Scooby-Doo.
  • Famous people I've served in restaurants: Tammy Faye Baker, Arnold Palmer, Jerry Orbach (from Law & Order!)
  • Best comfort foods: homemade chicken & dumplings (Yankee-style, as a stew, with fluffy bisquick & vegetables, not Southern-style), my grandmother's zucchini bread, fresh-baked pie with my homemade crust, and canned Spaghettios. (stop laughing.)
  • My grandmother had many purses. She would always leave a penny in the purse before she put it away. She told me, "...this way, you'll never be poor." I do the same thing today. I donate my used purses & leave a penny in them so other people won't be poor either.
  • My maternal great aunt Ebel swore she could read tea leaves...and crystal balls. (She also had 18+ cats IN her house, but, I digress...)
  • I'm 50% French-Canadian (dad's side)
  • I'm 25% Polish (mom's father's side)
  • I'm 25% Welsh, English, and obscurely-related-to-the-Queen-of-England (according to my grandmother...the crystal-ball-gazer's sister)
  • I love Star Trek. I had a huge crush on Captain Kirk when I was little.
  • My favorite band is The Eagles. "Take it to the Limit" is my favorite song from them.
  • My relationships with both health/fitness and Law & Order began in 1990. Decades later & we are all still together.
  • I started going gray in my 20's.
  • I'm a technology geek. Love it. Except for audio-visual. Then, I usually need explanation via sock puppets.
  • I learned to make jam & jelly when I was getting married. My mom said I should give homemade wedding favors that people would remember. I worked my ass off that summer over a hot stove. I've never made jam or jelly again.
  • In college, I was a dead-ringer for Jennifer Grey (prior to her nose job & hair straightening).
  • In my 20's and 30's, I looked a LOT like Helen Hunt (back then, she was on "Mad About You").
  • My closet has been color-coordinated since middle-school.
  • I love logic puzzles. And coloring mandalas.
  • I can effortlessly recite the baseball scene within "Paradise by the Dashboard light"
  • My favorite relative has always been, and will always be, my Uncle George.
  • I've never seen Star Wars. Or Jaws.
  • On November 9, 1967, the first Apollo Saturn V rocket launched, unmanned, as a test. Some 45 years later, I taught, what was at that time, the biggest yoga class of my life under the Saturn V rocket at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center. (November 9, 1967 is my birthday.)
  • I've been told I should write a book. Perhaps. Someday.
  • Good puns make me cry with laughter. "How do you make holy water?" "You boil the hell out of it." BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
  • I snort when I laugh. (Consider yourself warned.)
